Down in the dumps.

- Unhappy; depressed.

Origins: 16th Century | The phrase actually started out as a figure of speech rather than a literal meaning.

Surprisingly, Rachel Ray wasn’t too down in the dumps when her manager told her he booked her as Popeye in an upcoming episode of Sesame Street.
