When good fonts go bad
It’s sad when a good font jumps the shark. There wasn’t even a shark / waterskiing incident or mildly annoying cousin to blame it on (Happy Days reference for those that remember…Happy Days was a sitcom from back in the day when Joannie still loved Chachi for those that don’t rememb… oh never mind.)

It wasn’t their fault at first. Really, they were just sitting around minding their own little vector based business, enjoying their “fresh” status as the new kid on the block (in the 80’s when things were still considered “fresh” and the actual New Kids on the Block saturated the world in soul stealing pop). When all of a sudden everyone under the sun just started abusing them. Next thing you know they started hanging out with the wrong kind of people, got into a bit of trouble (I think Papyrus isn’t allowed back in Tennessee for another 10 years) and found themselves schleping everything from movie posters, garden products, “Healthy” or “Natural” foods and products… the list goes on and on.
While Papyrus has long been a go to for the creatively challenged looking for that “special something” (what that something is I can’t even begin to imagine) for years, even having a website devoted to Papyrus and Algerian sightings (papyrus hate here , algerian loathing here and easily makes the top 10 in many “most overused font” lists , Algerian while reviled, is a relative new-comer to my list.

I was ok with Algerian, and I will admit, have even tried it a few times, and even though Algerian is a little new to the “most-used” pantheon, it is rapidly making it’s bid for top of the heap status. I don’t know if it is a regional preference or not (and from what I have seen online…it is not!), but around Southern California, Algerian is quickly becoming the Africanized Bee of fonts (invasive and aggressive towards other species).
In the interest of science and so as to not just make such slanderous accusations against innocent (until proven guilty) suspects, I pledge to begin documenting Algerian and Papyrus sightings locally so we have hard proof of these fonts true agenda…to do the same thing they do every night….try and take over the world!
I invite you to do your own research and document your own findings. Post them here and we will amass and iron clad case against these good fonts who have chosen a path of darkness. Viva La Revolucíon!
